The Process
The Basic Rolfing series consists of ten sessions. Each Rolfing session builds upon the results of the previous one, so that the results are cumulative. Sessions last from an hour to an hour and a half. The amount of time between sessions varies and is determined on an individual basis. The average spacing is one to two weeks. A Rolfer will begin by evaluating the client’s structure and goals of the series. Rolfing practitioners are trained to recognise a body’s structural organisations and can skilfully locate compensatory strategies as a result of muscular strain and tension. The client may be photographed for later reference. The client is then asked to lie upon the table, and the Rolfer applies just the right amount of pressure where the fascia is restricted. Rolfers do not only work with connective tissue; they also work with respiration rhythms and other responses of the body. They educate movement awareness in ways of using the newly found freedom. The client may be asked to breathe into the area being worked and / or make synchronised movements. The combination of applied pressure and synchronised responses frees and repositions the connective tissue, and aligns the body’s segments. Throughout the Process, the client is made aware of their movement habits and holding patterns, and is encouraged to experience their newly found freedom of movement. |
